Sea Change
Chromatic Shift Photography

Since its creation, Seaside, Florida has been a community that reflects perfection. Its blemish-free settings have been used even by Hollywood (The Truman Show, 1998) to exemplify what we might consider a perfect man-made community. The streets are clear and charming, the homes are warm and inviting, and all roads lead to the chapel in the middle of town that is pristine and gleaming in the brilliant Florida sunshine.

As creative as Seaside was in its inception, its maintenance is quite the opposite. The community is guarded by rigid rules and ordinances to holdfast the original concept and maintian this opulence and perfection. It is these guidelines that make a sense of conformity to the town that is white-washed.

Hyper Seaside is a study of color and conformity. Taking the subject of the town and the everyday objects that exist on its avenues and applying a change of color, the town loses this conformity that confines it, and the real creativity of the original intent can shine through. Hyper Seaside turns up the dial and makes an amped version of the town accentuating the characteristics that make it such a charming venue.

Chromatic Shift Photography

Chromatic shift photography is a digital process that I have styled. The process is a break from the common color or black and white photography, and can have a profound change on the subject. The process does not simply select parts of the subject to shift, but it is an overall shift in color over the entire image. This may cause drastic and dramatic changes in color in some parts of the image, yet maintain a more recognizable color spectrum in other sections of the photograph.

This series of photographs is complemented by an entire line of similar images from other regions and cities.
