About Ben

Ben Fant grew up in Jackson, Mississippi then attended Mississippi State University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 2002. Ben started Ben Fant Photography in 2007 to pursue his love of photography and his talent for telling a story.

Whether photographing food or architecture, Ben's approach is simple... don't let photograph look like a photograph. This is achieved by simple yet expressive lighting techniques that allow the subject to speak for itself, so the viewer does not feel as though they are looking at a photograph. Photojournalism and commercial photography are among Ben's skills. He is a regular stringer photographer for the Commercial Appeal and The Daily News in Memphis, Tennessee. His photography has appeared in other news sources and magazines including the Food Network, Delta Sky Magazine, South Mississippi Living Magazine, Delta Magazine, the Sun Herald, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Observer, Fix Magazine, Spoon Magazine and NBC. Ben has had the pleasure of photographing public figures and celebrities including Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Priscilla Presley, Vijay Singh, Paula Deen, Robin Roberts, and Chef Kelly English. Ben's photos have been published in two volumes of the Capture Memphis photo book in which he won a Top Ten award. One of his photos was also awarded Top 100 of the Decade by the Commercial Appeal. Ben was also commissioned to photograph a cookbook for the Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association, Gulf Coast Chapter in 2011. A second volume is being produced in 2012.
